entendia como "emo".
isso por causa da carga emocional das letras e a interpretação
desesperadora do vocalista Daryl Palumbo.

letras, pegadas, berros, muitos berros... tudo tem som de desgraça e
desespero... algo como o início de carreira dos deftones ("7 words").

agora depois dessa moda "emopunkshoppingcentergotic" não sei bem como
classificar esse tipo de som então vou mandar aki a classificação do
AllMusic (nem sempre confiável)

Long Island, NY-based progressive hardcore band Glassjaw was formed by
singer Daryl Palumbo and guitarist Justin Beck , longtime
friends who began collaborating as teens. Roster changes regularly
plagued the group during its formative years, with guitarist Todd N.
Weinstock , bassist Manuel Carrero , and drummer Sammy
Siegler completing the lineup for Glassjaw's 2000 debut album,
/Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence/ . Siegler
was replaced by ex- Orange 9MM drummer Larry Gorman
for the band's summer tour in support of the Deftones . Carrero
was also replaced by Dave Allen . Two years later, Glassjaw
inked a deal with Warner Bros. and issued /Worship and Tribute/
in July 2002. The band saw more membership changes in late 2004 when
Weinstock left to pursue his own band -- Men, Women and
Children , and Manuel Carrero rejoined in place of Allen
. Singer Daryl Palumbo 's side project, Head Automatica ,
also took Gorman away, Durijah Lang coming on in his
place. After a two-year hiatus, Glassjaw played three shows in 2005.

The rap-metal band Molotov formed in 1995 in Mexico City, comprising singer/guitarist Tito Fuentes, bassists Mickey "Huidos" Huidobro and Javier de la Cueva, and a drummer known as La Quesadillera. By 1996, Paco Ayala had replaced de la Cueva and Randy "El Gringo Loco" Ebright became the band's new drummer. Molotov's 1997 debut LP Donde Jugaran Las Ninas? was a hit with both Spanish- and English-speaking audiences, earning a Grammy nomination for best Latin rock-alternative performance. The remix collection Molomix followed a year later, and in 1999 the group returned with Apocalypshit, produced and recorded by Mario Caldato, Jr. (the Beastie Boys). Two and a half years later, Molotov followed with their third album Dance and Dense Denso.

Medulla -- A nova promessa do Rock Carioca

Essa banda está sendo considerada a grande revelação carioca do ano.
É liderada por dois moleques gêmeos (18 anos) nos vocais e foram a banda-sensação do último "Abril pro Rock"
Comparações com o Rappa serão inevitáveis, mas acho que conforme eles forem amadurecendo, irão moldar uma personalidade mais singular.

Muita atenção às letras. Destaque para "Virginia" e "Susi"...

Depois de passarem uns tempos congelados pela gravadora, os gêmeos Keops e Raoni adquiriram maturidade e agora estão invadindo o mercado com a banda Medulla. Inspirados pelo som do grupo Rappa e pela avassaladora onda de rap que tem tomado conta da juventude, os irmãos pernambucanos já estão emplacando seu primeiro sucesso, ‘Munição na Mamadeira’. O som do grupo é muito interessante mas não chega a ser nada surpreendente. Eles têm boas letras, suingue e a vontade de modificar o mundo que existe em todos os jovens de 17 anos. Keops e Raoni, que passaram suas vidas entre Recife, São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro, são politicamente corretos e possuem um visual moderno e revolto, o que já conta muitos pontos para alcançarem o sucesso.  ‘Fim da Trégua’ consegue se destacar de outros CDs do gênero pela boa produção e pela ousadia demonstrada pelos irmãos. Destaque para a boa releitura de ‘O Velho’, de Chico Buarque, e para ‘Virginia’, além, é claro, de ‘Munição na Mamadeira’. (J.R.)

não que seja lá grandes coisas, mas esse disco eu tenho um puta carinho, pq foi o meu primeiro de punk (há exatamente 10 anos)...
é "melódico" mas não tem nada a ver com essa modinha "emo" dos infernos que tomou conta da molecada...
esse disco é recheado de refrões grudentos, dakeles que colam na mente e demoram a sair... o tipo de coisa que a gente fica assobiando qdo não tem porra nenhuma pra fazer...

The Christian-themed punk-pop outfit MxPx was formed in Bremerton, WA, in 1993 by vocalist/bassist Mike Herrera, drummer Yuri Ruley, and guitarist Andy. Originally dubbed Magnified Plaid, at the time of the group's formation all its members were still in high school. Their moniker was later shortened to just MxPx after Ruley abbreviated their name on some show flyers, but poor handwriting saw the periods being interpreted as x's instead; the name stuck. By the time they got their driver's licenses, the trio had already released several 7" singles and their debut album, Pokinatcha, for Tooth & Nail Records in 1994. It quickly became the label's best seller and prompted the release of the band's sophomore effort, Teenage Politics, late the next year. By this album, Andy had been replaced by band friend Tom Wisniewski, who dropped his drumsticks and picked up a guitar in order to join the band. Popular with the skate/surf community as well as the punk underground (with a snowboard sponsorship to their name), MxPx broke out of the underground in 1996 with their classic third LP, Life in General. The album included such fan favorites as "Chick Magnet" and "Move to Bremerton." Though dubbed a Christian punk band, religious themes were never an overbearingly dominant force in the band's songs, as they usually relied on universal themes of growing up and trying to figure life out. As MxPx progressed in their career, their songs began to gravitate more toward the secular side of things as well. Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo, their debut for major label A&M, appeared in 1998. That fall they also released the compilation album Let It Happen back on Tooth and Nail, which contained B-sides, demos, and other stray tracks. The live At the Show trailed a year later. The Broken Bones EP came out in 2000 before their next full-length, The Ever Passing Moment, appeared in the spring. Two years later, MxPx commemorated their time together with the greatest-hits release of Ten Years and Running. Their next official studio effort came the next year in the form of Before Everything & After, an album that alienated many veteran fans with its overly slick, pop-oriented nature. Late 2004 saw the release of the career retrospective DVD B-Movie; jumping back to the indies and their punk roots, Panic next surfaced in June 2005 on Side One Dummy.

Tango com trip-hop. Mistura estranha, né ?
E se eu te disser que essa mistura é feita por dois franceses ? Piorou ?

Conheci essa dupla qdo vi um filme chamado "Segredo de Charlie" (http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=1:266886~C)
onde uma das músicas deste ótimo disco se repetia na trilha sonora em várias cenas de transição...

Before they perfected the electronica-meets-tango sound of the Gotan Project, Paris musicians Philippe Cohen Solal and Christoph H. Mueller worked together in the Boys from Brazil and Stereo Action Unlimited as early as 1996. Releasing their music on Solal's Ya Basta label, the two quickly caught the ears of Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, and other electronica tastemakers, while Coca-Cola picked a Boys from Brazil track for a European television commercial. Despite all the success, the duo wanted a project that had a more constant mood. Feeling that both tango and dub had a subdued and melancholic sound, they decided to combine the genres. With the addition of Eduardo Makaroff in 1999, they formed the Gotan Project and released the first of four 10"s on Ya Basta in February 2000. The band had drummed up quite a buzz in the U.K. and European press, and soon XL recordings snagged the group. XL issued their full-length debut, La Revancha del Tango, in 2001, and the self-proclaimed "top Argentinean musicians exiled in Paris" toured to support the album with guest musicians and a video backdrop by multimedia artist Prisca Lobjoy. Lunatico from 2006 was named after tango legend Carlos Gardel's champion racehorse.
